Lending Library
What is it?This project has been financed in part with funds provided by the State of Minnesota from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the Minnesota Historical Society.
|
The Minnesota Alliance of Local History Museums (MALHM) provides a lending library service for the purpose of providing access to titles that will lead to organizations meeting or exceeding best practices and standards.
MALHM has created an online portal for patrons to view the titles available through its lending library. This service is hosted through Libib.com. Patrons may only checkout or place holds on titles after creating a free account. The account will provide basic information to MALHM on the patron for the purpose of tracking lent items and tracking usage of the lending library. |
How do you access it? |
The website for the library is: https://malhm.libib.com/ You do not need an account to simply view the title available, only if you wish to borrow a title.
All patrons must complete account registration in order to checkout or place holds on titles. This is a free registration process. To create an account, send an email to the Alliance Coordinator. An account will be created using that email address and you will be notified when the account has been created by MALHM. To login to your account, use the Patron Login button on the left hand side. |
What is the lending procedure? |
Items may be checked out via the online portal. Patrons should select “Add Hold” underneath the item photo. This will place the item in a queue. To successfully place a hold on the item, the patron must select the “Complete” button. MALHM staff will then check the item out for you and begin the lending process. No more than 5 items may be checked out at one time.
Each item may be checked out for 30 days with the opportunity to renew once. This provides each lending transaction to last no longer than 60 days. Items may be renewed through the online portal. If a hold has been placed on the item prior to renewal, the patron cannot renew the item. The Alliance Coordinator will ship the title to patron at MALHM’s expense via the U.S. Postal Service Media Mail rate. A tracking number will be provided to the patron. For each title, the lending start date will be adjusted to the confirmed delivery date provided by the USPS tracking number. A return label will be included to ensure the item is returned to the lending address. Patrons are to return the title via the USPS Media Mail rate. The accompanying tracking number should be emailed to the Alliance Coordinator at gibson@mnhistoryalliance.org. Each patron is responsible for the expense of return shipping. The return date will be the confirmed delivery date provided by the USPS tracking number. Send to: Gibson Stanton - MALHM 252 Erie Street St. Paul, MN 55102 There is no grace period for returning items. Any item not returned by the due date is subject to fines as outlined in the following section. |
Outstanding Loans & Fines |
Any patron, who has outstanding loan items, cannot checkout additional materials until all outstanding loans are returned.
Fines will begin to accumulate the first day after the due date of loaned items. A fine of $1.00 per day per item will be accessed to the patron account for late items. Fine invoices will be sent by email to patrons from the MALHM Square account. Cash, check, or credit card (online only) may be used to pay invoices. A maximum of $20 can accumulate in late fees per item. If fines reach a total of $10 or are more than 90 days old, the patron’s lending privileges will be suspended until all fines are paid in full. A title that has not been returned within 30 days of the loan period expiration will be considered lost. The patron will be responsible for reimbursing MALHM the cost of purchasing a replacement plus shipping. If the title is out of print or currently unavailable, a fee of the last known purchase cost plus $10 will be assessed. If the lost items are returned, the replacement fee will be converted to a late fee. |
