Learn while socializing with your history colleagues at "MALHM Mingle" networking events.
These events provide informal networking time over food and drinks as well as an educational component. Each event will feature a different theme with a discussion facilitator. |
Annual Conference

The Annual Meeting and Conference has grown from a one-day, single-subject workshop to a two-day event with 16 sessions on all aspects of local history work. In addition to learning from speakers in the field, registrants also connect with each other and offer peer to peer support.

Curators Affinity Group
|
Curators are often Curator, Registrar, Collections Manager, Exhibits Manager, Historian, Researcher, and Author all rolled into one! While the nature of our work is broad, most of us encounter similar situations. Through this group, curators from local history organizations can get to know one another in hopes of supporting one another and sharing thoughts, problems, ideas, strategies and solutions.

House Museum Affinity Group

The National Trust for Historic Preservation roughly estimates that there are more than 15,000 historic house museums across the country, outnumbering McDonald’s restaurants in America. Minnesota's many house museums are varied - from the homes of famous authors and politicians to humble log cabins and stately mansions. Many are reinventing themselves to find new audiences and attract repeat visitors. This group shares ideas on all aspects of house museum management, including programming, facilities use, best practices and more.

Regional Groups

Network with colleagues in your geographic area of the state. While not an official arm of MALHM, regional groups are an important way for history professionals to connect. MALHM Board Members and leaders are involved in their local groups and stay informed.
Hennepin History Groups includes not only city and county historical societies, but also groups that focus on neighborhoods, preservation and business history. It meets three to four times per year to share ideas and hear speakers. Minnesota’s Historic Northwest, a registered 501c3 non-profit organization, supports tourism, continuing education, networking, and grant writing within the 12 counties it serves. It also creates travelling exhibits and has produced a book. The North Shore Historical Assembly is perhaps the oldest of the coalitions, forming in the early 1930s with Cook, Lake, and St. Louis County Historical Societies, as well as Thunder Bay Historical Society. The group’s goal is to promote historical knowledge of the North Shore of Lake Superior through presenting papers and addresses at their biennial meetings held in each county on an alternating basis. Northland History Coalition formed with groups in the Northeast area of the state. Washington County History Network meets quarterly. West Central Minnesota Historical Association is a collaboration of the county and area historical societies and museums of 10 counties in West Central Minnesota.
