A Voice for Local History

The Alliance strives to advocate for issues that matter to local history organizations through participation in the Minnesota History Coalition, attending legislative hearings and History Matters Day, and keeping organizations informed on issues related to the work of preserving Minnesota's history.

New: Advocacy Pocket Guide

During the Fall 2025 Advocacy Team Survey, one of the top resource requests was for advocacy handouts & help with talking points.

In response, the MALHM Advocacy Team has created the Advocacy Pocket Guide— a customizable template you can use to reference basic organizational info, access quick tips & tricks, and take notes when advocating for your organization, no matter the audience!

The Advocacy Team will provide guidance on how to best use the guide over the next few months (catch them at the 2026 Annual Conference!), but you don't have to wait to get started. Find the template below & reach out with any questions:

History Matters Advocacy Day

An annual gathering at the Minnesota State Capitol to meet with legislators to thank them for their support of history and to urge them to provide strong funding for local history in the next legislative session.

The Minnesota History Coalition is composed of history organizations that carry out the work of preserving Minnesota's legacy– we preserve the past for future generations. The Alliance has served as a member of the coalition since its inception in 2009.
