RFP:  Exhibit Developer

​Summary
The Scott County Historical Society (client) are seeking the services of a highly qualified exhibit developer (contractor) to develop and install a sports exhibit titled “Play Ball: Sports in Scott County”.
 
Timeline
First consideration given to proposals received by 5 p.m., Friday February 9, 2018
 
Contractor is expected to be selected between February 12 -16, 2018. Projected start is February 20, 2018, and concludes September 30, 2018. 
 
Project Budget
The contractor will receive up to $9,500 in compensation, plus mileage and approved expenses. No per-diem or meal reimbursement will be provided.
 
Scope of Work
Please note that the following scope of work assumes a working presence by the contractor for an average of 30 hours per month over the contract period. Some flexibility is possible and the selected contractor will negotiate a specific plan of work upon contract award.
 
1.1 Research: sports in Scott County; identify specific topics, related collection items, and identify areas for hands-on activities in collaboration with SCHS
1.2  Design exhibit: develop exhibit plan in collaboration with SCHS; create exhibit logo; provide SCHS with graphics for marketing purposes
1.3  Write: text panels and object labels; create secure object mounts as needed; provide SCHS staff with written details for marketing purposes
1.4  Installation per exhibit plan: paint walls and cases; arrange for printing; mount panels, labels, and photos; install objects / collection items
1.5 Keep SCHS informed of exhibit progress.
 
Required Qualifications – Exhibit Development 
  • Two – three years of experience in exhibit development
  • Two – three years of experience conducting historical research
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Successful track record of exhibit installation
 
Desired Qualifications
  • BA degree in history
  • Three years of experience in exhibit development
  • Demonstrated knowledge of museum best practices
  • Demonstrated knowledge of collections care
  • Experience working with small museums/local historic sites and their exhibits

Written questions will be accepted via email through February 9, 2018 and all questions and responses will be provided to all respondents by February 11, 2018 via email.
 
Proposal document:       Address capacity to successfully complete the desired scope of work. Maximum of three (3) pages.
 
CV/Resume:                     Maximum of three (3) pages.
 
References:                      Minimum of three (3), with contact information included.
 
Attachments (optional):              For each element included in the scope of work, applicants may attach one sample document of no more than two (2) pages in length demonstrating their capacity to complete the desired work.
 
Position open until filled, but primary consideration given to proposals received by 5 p.m., Friday February 9. Interviews with finalists expected to be conducted on/near February 14, 2018.
